چکیده

Subsea pipelines and cables placed in ice-prone regions may be at risk of iceberg damage. In particular, pipes that are not buried come direct contact with keels. Knowing the range interaction forces helps to assess types magnitudes potential Experimental studies provide most valuable data about forces, while numerical modeling give insight into configurations difficult study experimentally. This work applies cohesive zone model investigate fracture behavior ice samples. Simulations performed 2D Abaqus explicit solver. Modeled from multiple simulations recorded compared understand how geometry samples affects fracture. Repeat interactions different grain conducted associated variance patterns loads. t-tests show force application angle indenter’s position significantly affect force.

A Cohesive Zone Model for Crack Growth Simulation in AISI 304 Steel

Stable ductile crack growth in 3 mm thick AISI 304 stainless steel specimens has been investigated experimentally and numerically. Multi-linear Isotropic Hardening method coupled with the Von-Mises yield criterion was adopted for modeling elasto-plastic behavior of the material. Mode-I CT fracture specimens have been tested to generate experimental load-displacement-crack growth data during sta...

Debonding of confined elastomeric layer using cohesive zone model

model (CZM). Using stability analysis of linear equations governing plane strain quasi-static deformations of an elastomer, we find (i) a non-dimensional number relating the elastomer layer thickness, h, the long term Young's modulus, E1, of the interlayer material, the peak traction, Tc, in the CZM bilinear tractionseparation (TS) relation, and the fracture energy, Gc, of the interface between...

A multiscale cohesive zone model and simulations of fractures

In this work, a novel multiscale cohesive zone model is proposed, in which the bulk material is modeled as a local quasi-continuum medium that obeys the Cauchy–Born rule while the cohesive force and displacement relations inside the cohesive zone are governed by a coarse grained depletion potential. The interface depletion potential is constructed based on the Derjaguin approximation of nonloca...

A Vanishing Viscosity Approach to Fracture Growth in a Cohesive Zone Model with Prescribed Crack Path

Abstract. The existence of crack evolutions based on critical points of the energy functional is proved, in the case of a cohesive zone model with prescribed crack path. It turns out that evolutions of this type satisfy a maximum stress criterion for the crack initiation. With an explicit example, it is shown that evolutions based on the absolute minimization of the energy functional do not enj...
